Hello all, suggestions please:
yesterday my notebook blue screened and I was then presented with the HP recovery tools, none of which worked and finally I got a disk error on boot. The HP support assistant recommended using the HP Cloud recovery tool which I have done twice, the error is now: "The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following options; Save Log; Details; Retry" My conclusion is that the 256GB SSD has failed. The machine is 3 years old and I have read that certain HP SSDs fail after about that time.....but who knows... thoughts please?

Hi:
If you got a 24 character failure code then the drive has failed and needs to be replaced.
You can try this before replacing the SSD...
Make a bootable W10 installer using the media creation tool at the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
If W10 won't clean install on the drive, then you can pretty much assume the drive is no good.
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the SSD removal and replacement procedure.
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that only SATA M.2 SSD's are supported, so don't buy an NVMe one.
If you want to buy a 500 GB or 1 TB M.2 SATA SSD, that should be fine.
