My daughter reported that she was making music on her notebook, when the BIOS automatically began to update and then it just shut down. It will not power on now. I tried the windows key + B and the light by the AC port is on and flashes when trying to push the power button, but no LED light or other keys flash. The screen remains black and I don't hear the fan kicking on. She thinks it's Win 11, but I am pretty sure it came with win 10 64 bit. She doesn't remember updating it to 11 either, so I don't know for sure what to download for a USB flash drive to recover the BIOS, (assuming that's the problem). I don't want to make anything worse and I have been reading for hours now. Most protocols say to turn it off before other steps first, but I have no indication that it's powered on in first place and it doesn't respond to anything. The only sign of life is the ac port light and the fact that it flashes when holding the power button.

Go here and put in serial number to check warranty
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/details/hp-laptop-pc-17-by4000/model/38752977?sku=12C30UA
Have you done 1,2 and the first part of 3?
https://support.hp.com/lv-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16
Try the 2nd part of 3 using a USB flash with an LED so you can tell if it is booting or loading
you can try the latest biosl https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp149001-149500/sp149432.exe
and if that does not work then try an older one such as F.18 Rev.A by scrolling down and expanding the following

Thank you so much. Yes, I tried everything suggested on that page last night except for the USB flash recovery in step 3 and nothing worked. After checking warranty and confirming it was expired, I went through the steps again and this time step 1 was a success. I unplugged AC, held down power for 15 seconds. I heard a 'zurp' sound, which gave me hope. Plugged it back in and turned it on and we are back in business. I'm glad I gave it another shot before attempting manual recovery. Thank you so much for your reply. I sincerely appreciate you and the time you take helping others.
