I installed a BIOS update from Windows Update (F16) that borked my computer (the AMD display driver is wrecked). I'm trying to install the latest BIOS firmware from HP (F18RevA), but the file doesn't run properly. I've downloaded it a few times, both manually and using the HP download & install tool.
On first run, it asks where to unpack the file, then seems to try to run, but does nothing, with the process eventually just vanishing from the Task Manager. No error, no user-interface of any kind ater choosing a destination folder.
I would be content with just the firmware and signature file, but I don't know how to extract them from the "BIOS_Update.exe" file. Trying to run it directly just causes the mouse to spin for a moment, then nothing. Running the installer again just says it can't unpack the file (presumably since the previous iteration is still there).
How can I get it to run, or how can I just get the files to put on a USB drive?

I never got the update application to run, but I called HP tech support and they were able to extract the binary and signature files and email them to me. From there it was easy to put them on USB and run the update from within the BIOS. I'm all sorted out now.
I still don't know why I couldn't get the program to run, I tried 4 computers, some each of Win10 and Win11.
