Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

hi everyone;

I am trying to update my laptop HP2560P to windows 11 and each time it saying your device has no Security boot.

I looked up in the bios and did not find that option what can I do?

@husseindhaher

A laptop that has BIOS instead of UEFI will not support Secure Boot.  And it's not going to suddenly demand Secure Boot out of the blue.  So, what have you done to it recently?

Hello @husseinhadher and @WAWood,

I am also an owner of an HP Elitebook 2560p and facing the same issue.  In regards to the latter part of your reply, @WAWood:  You may not be aware, but the newly released Insider Preview of Windows 11 requires Secure Boot.  This decision was made by Microsoft, part of a larger group of security requirements, aiming for the objective to reduce the risk of malware infection.

It seems that downloading Windows 11's ISO from unofficial sources and modifying the files is a potential workaround but not one I am confident doing due to the risk of malware in ISO files from random sources; certainly not a risk you take if you are serious about security and privacy.

I updated my BIOS to the latest version (a change that is constructive nevertheless), but unfortunately the option for Secure Boot remains unlisted.  It seems that the 2560p notebook "simulates" the UEFI boot method, rather than implementing it in a complete manner.  I believe "CSM" is a key term, related to this issue.  As such, I believe that the only option at this point is to hope that Microsoft lifts the restrictions in response to user feedback, hopefully realizing that the current situation would result in a very rough launch with few devices being able to upgrade.

Best regards,

Noah, a fellow (otherwise happy) 2560p owner

That means I have to change Bios from Legacy to UEFI, is that correct?

You Suggest downloading new windows in UEFI mode?

Downloading unsecured windows is not a solution, you may wait to sep they will release a new version.
