HP All-In-One PC

My computer has been malfunctioning for the past 9 hours. Here is essentially my issue:

I am able to restart my computer and log into the desktop. However, when I click on anything, nothing loads. Not the web browsers, not the folder icons, not the startup menu. Nothing. Then I have to long press the power button to shut down.

Sometimes while on the desktop, the screen will go black. Then it will go white and flash. The same result occurs. I have to long press and shut down.

Upon restarting, I see the following message:

The CMOS checksum is invalid. The CMOS will reset to the default configuration, and the computer will restart. Afterwards, please check the BIOS setup optionso to see if they change.

CMOS Reset (502)

ENTER - Restart the computer

Help? Anyone? I have a lot of work to do and can't afford a much longer delay.

THANKS IN ADVANCE, I HOPE!

Hi @Gedster,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're experiencing a couple of issues with your HP All-In-One PC. The CMOS checksum error suggests that there might be a problem with the CMOS battery or the CMOS settings, which can affect the system's ability to retain configuration information. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Replace CMOS Battery:

  • The CMOS battery is a small coin-cell battery on the motherboard that helps store BIOS settings. If it's depleted or faulty, it can cause these types of errors.
  • Try replacing the CMOS battery with a new one. You can usually find these batteries at electronics or computer hardware stores.

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during the boot process. This is typically done by pressing a specific key (like F2, Del, Esc) depending on your system.
  • Once in the BIOS, look for an option to load default or optimized settings. This will reset the BIOS to its default configuration.
  • Save changes and exit the BIOS. The system should restart.

Check for Malware:

  • Sometimes, malware can cause system instability. Perform a thorough antivirus and anti-malware scan to ensure your system is clean.

System Restore:

  • If the issue started recently, you can try performing a system restore to revert your system to a previous state when it was working correctly.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Ensure that all hardware components are properly connected. Reseat RAM modules, check cables, and ensure there are no loose connections.

Windows Repair:

  • Boot your computer from a Windows installation USB or DVD and choose the repair option. This might help fix any corrupted system files.

Safe Mode:

  • Try booting your computer into Safe Mode. If it works fine in Safe Mode, it could indicate a driver or software issue. You can then uninstall recently installed programs or drivers.

Remember to back up your important data if you haven't already, as some troubleshooting steps might involve resetting or reinstalling the operating system, which could result in data loss.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
