850 G5
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Even though I have a maxed-out 850 G5 with Intel i7 and nvme SSD, this laptop has the slowest BIOS I've ever seen in my life. Enter the BIOS, restarting the computer, dual booting, everything is incredibly slow until Windows kicks in and then I can see the real speed of the machine. Is this normal? Or is there some setting I am missing. I have tried enabling and disabling Sure Start and legacy boot, but there's no effect.

I've got a HP Elitebook 850 G5 (i5), upgraded to 16GB RAM. It's positively the worst computer I've ever had. Booting, and everyday tasks are excruciatingly slow (Word, Excel, Outlook). I’ve come to loathe every minute I use it. It has a nice design, but it’s a horrible computer. Compared to the HP Elitebook 850 G4, it’s worthless.

UPDATE: 5 days after this posting, HP exchanged my computer

It came after 1 month of frustration including:

  • Hours over several days, talking to different people at HP India (where most support calls are routed to).
  • Then, computer was sent 1 week to HP Repair Center.
  • Subsequent, hours over several days, talking to different people at HP Local Support.
  • Finally, a 4-hour drive to the internet store’s only physical location.
  • Computer was accepted as DOA (Dead ON Arrival). Presumably a BIOS issue, as it wouldn’t clock over 0,4 GHz. It was exchanged to a new.

Conclusion:

It’s now a fast and nice computer.

I feel let down by a cordial, but generally inadequate HP support. Furthermore, the HP Repair Center didn’t fix the issue, but just returned a deficient computer. I was saved by a single upstanding HP employee, that commiserated with me. In all, an excessively time consuming and stressful experience.

That's strange, mine is fast once I get in Windows. Everything opens quickly and browsing internet is also quick. Do you have a solid state drive? I don't see why it should be that slow.
