My laptop/notebook, keeps freezing up every so often for a few seconds/minutes and it's becoming annoying if I am typing, gaming, etc.
I have done the Fast Test with the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows app. It came up straight away that the 'Short Drive Self-Test' had failed, I'm new to problems with technology, all I know is how to work these things. But, I don't know if the freezing is something to do with this. I tried looking for more information and it says there's something with the hard-drive and that it is supposedly critical. I'm not sure on what to do. Will I have to back up my personal files to a flash drive or external hard drive soon if I do need to replace the hard-drive?

Hi
"Will I have to back up my personal files to a flash drive or external hard drive soon if I do need to replace the hard-drive? "
I believe so.
You should create Backups and Recovery Media for the inevitable failure of the Hard Drive.
Research an alternative drive, for gaming an SSD may be preferable.
