I have a HP Pavilion Notebook 15-ab138no with Product number: T9Q88EA#UUW and Processor Type: AMD A10 Extreme Edition Radeon R8, 4C+8G. Operating system: Windows 10
I am getting Blue Screen with stop code: ACPI_BIOS_ERROR.
1. I tried to rollback BIOS. It went 100% but stayed there forever. After 5 hours, restarted the laptop still with same issue.
2. Then I tried to update BIOS and getting a message "The selected BIOS image was not available. You may select an alternate image file or cancel the update".
3. Then I tried downloading BIOS from official HP Support site but could not find now.
4. Tried to Reset BIOS to Default Settings by pressing F10 during booting. “Load Setup Defaults” and performed "Save and exit."
Nothing worked and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time and effort

@SathishkumarRam, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with a persistent ACPI_BIOS_ERROR on your HP Pavilion Notebook 15-ab138no. You've already tried several good steps, so let's build on that and try a few more targeted solutions.
Perform a Hard Reset
This clears residual power and resets hardware connections:
- Power off the laptop.
- Disconnect the AC adapter and remove any external devices.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the AC adapter (without peripherals) and try powering it on.
Attempt BIOS Recovery Using Key Combination
HP laptops support a built-in BIOS recovery method:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press and hold Windows + B keys, then press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds.
- Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B for another 10 seconds.
- If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.
If that doesn’t work, try the same with Windows + V instead of Windows + B.
Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive
Since the BIOS update isn't available directly on the support page anymore, try this workaround:
- On another working PC, go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
- Enter your product number.
- If BIOS is not listed, try selecting Windows 8.1 as the OS (sometimes older BIOS versions are listed under previous OS versions).
- Download the BIOS update utility and create a recovery USB using HP’s instructions: HP BIOS Recovery USB Creation.
Reset BIOS Settings Again
You’ve done this, but just to confirm:
- Press F10 during boot to enter BIOS.
- Select Load Setup Defaults.
- Save and Exit.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

@SathishkumarRam, Thanks for the detailed update. Since the ACPI_BIOS_ERROR and now Error code: 0x0000001 appeared after installing the Insta360 Studio update, it’s likely that the update triggered a conflict with your system’s firmware or drivers. Let’s go step-by-step to recover your system.
Create Windows 10 Installation Media (Recovery USB)
Since your system can’t boot and BIOS recovery didn’t work, we’ll use a Windows recovery USB to repair the OS:
- On another working PC:
- Go to the official Microsoft site: Download Windows 10
- Click “Download tool now” under Create Windows 10 installation media.
- Run the tool and choose “Create installation media (USB flash drive)”.
- Use a USB drive with at least 8 GB capacity.
Boot from the Recovery USB
- Insert the USB into your HP laptop.
- Power on and immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
- Press F9 to open Boot Device Options.
- Select the USB drive and press Enter.
Use Recovery Tools
Once booted into the Windows installer:
- Click “Repair your computer” (bottom left).
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options:
- Try Startup Repair first.
- If that fails, go to Command Prompt and run:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd - Then restart and check if the system boots.
If Still Failing – System Restore or Reset
- From the same Advanced Options menu:
- Try System Restore (if you had restore points).
- Or choose Reset this PC (you can keep files or remove everything).
I hope this helps!
If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!
Take care and have a great day.
