HP Probook 4740s
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello! I am trying to install a new OS on my HP Probook 4740s, but it requires me to change some options (disable I/O port, enable Intel XMP) but there is no Advanced tab in the BIOS (neither the 2012 or 2019 version). Is there a way to enable it without editing the whole BIOS?

Sorry, but I'm not qualified to answer any legal questions.

If you have the resources on hand to modify the firmware, there's nothing anyone can do to stop you -- but if you then mess it up, not only would you have to pay HP to fix that, you would have to pay them a LOT -- because they would insist on replacing the entire motherboard and charge your for that plus the labor involved.

Sorry, but that's not possible.

OEMs lock out the advanced BIOS options to prevent customers from making changes to options that can destabilize or otherwise damage the PC -- and then send it back for repair under warranty claiming they did nothing to it.

I know only SOME of the advanced options are risky, but it's simpler to disable access to ALL advanced options than to allow/disallow on an individual option basis.

That's the course of action that HP has chosen.

I only have one question left: Is is legal to modify the BIOS/UEFI?
