I close the laptop lid I have it set to sleep when I close the lid. It takes a while to start and I can't figure out if I am doing something wrong when I open up the lid. I have to press the power button for it to startup.

Hi @quehouse,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
It should typically take just a few seconds for your HP Pavilion x360 to wake from sleep when you open the lid. If it requires pressing the power button, here are a few troubleshooting steps to resolve the delay:
Check Lid Wake Settings
Power Options:
- Right-click the battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options.
- Click Choose what closing the lid does on the left panel.
- Ensure the action for When I close the lid is set to Sleep for both battery and plugged-in modes.
Device Manager:
- Search for Device Manager and open it.
- Expand Keyboards or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on your input devices (keyboard/touchpad) and select Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Ensure Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.
Update Drivers and BIOS
Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the BIOS.
Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.
Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.
Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system by following the below steps.
go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.
Test Sleep and Wake
- Close the lid to put the laptop to sleep.
- Wait for a few seconds.
- Open the lid and observe whether it starts up automatically.
Additional Tips
- If the system has hybrid sleep enabled, disabling it might improve responsiveness. You can adjust this under Advanced Power Settings.
- Ensure no external devices (e.g., USB drives) are preventing the laptop from waking quickly.
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a great day ahead!
