@jbreuer, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding ACPI BIOS Error Troubleshooting!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
The "ACPI BIOS Error" typically indicates there is a problem with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) settings in the BIOS of your notebook. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:
Access BIOS Setup Utility:
- Restart your notebook.
- When the HP logo appears, press the F10 key to enter the BIOS Setup utility.
Reset BIOS to Default Settings:
- Once inside the BIOS Setup, use the arrow keys to navigate to the Exit menu.
- Select "Load Setup Defaults" or "Restore Defaults" (the specific wording might vary by BIOS version).
- Confirm the selection and save the changes.
Update BIOS:
- Check if there is a newer BIOS version available for your notebook on the HP Support website.
- Download the update and follow the instructions provided to install the new BIOS firmware.
Check Storage and Memory Components:
- Turn off the notebook and disconnect all external devices.
- Remove and then reseat the hard drive and memory modules to ensure that they are properly connected.
Clear the CMOS:
- Turn off the computer and any external devices, and disconnect power.
- Remove the access panel and locate the CMOS jumper or the battery.
- Remove the jumper from its default position to clear CMOS (refer to your notebook’s detailed manual for specific instructions).
- Replace the jumper or battery, reconnect power, and restart the notebook.
Run Diagnostic Tools:
- Use HP Diagnostic Tools to check hardware health. You can download these tools from the HP Support website or use pre-installed tools such as HP Vision Diagnostics (available on some HP models).
Check ACPI Settings in BIOS:
- Access the BIOS and locate settings related to ACPI.
- Ensure that ACPI is enabled and correctly configured. The "ACPI BIOS Error" typically indicates there is a problem with the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) settings in the BIOS of your notebook. Here are steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Dear ZOEY7886,
I entered the BIOS Setup pressing the F10 key while booting the laptop.
In the "exit menu" I selected "Load Setup defaults", saved the change and rebooted again
The error still comes up.
In the BIOS Setup I do not see any item refering to the setup of ACPI. This is may be because I am not able to enter the advanced settings in the BIOS setup.
Can you please advise me how I can proceed to fix the problem? Thank you.

Hi @jbreuer,
Thanks for the update, and I’m really sorry to hear the issue is still persisting — that blue screen with the ACPI BIOS error can definitely feel frustrating when you're just trying to get back to work. You're doing all the right things so far!
Since the default BIOS reset didn’t help and you can’t access advanced ACPI settings (which are often locked in consumer models), here are a couple of steps you can try next:
BIOS Update (Strongly Recommended):
Sometimes, a BIOS update resolves ACPI compatibility issues — especially after a Windows upgrade.
➡️ On another device, head over to the HP Drivers Page
Search using your product number: L2S55EA
Download the latest BIOS update (if available), and follow the instructions for creating a bootable USB to install it.
System Recovery or Reinstallation
If the BIOS is up to date but you're still hitting the error, the issue may be tied to Windows or a driver.
Try booting into HP Recovery Environment using F11 at startup (if accessible), or reinstall Windows via a bootable USB.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
