Hello

Before with the old 840 G1 and G2, i could use USB recovery BIOS and it worked perfekt.

But now with G3 and G4, it seems that its not working anymore??

With G3 when i press on Windows key + B and press enter while holding Windows key + B, the display wont turn on, just stays black, and the fan start to spinn at maxium speed, doesnt matter how long time i wait or how long time i contine press Windows key + B.

With G4 when i press on Windows key + B and press enter while holding Windows key + B, the display just flashes 3 times, and then goes to normal windows boot. Doesnt matter if i hold down Windows key + B trough the whole process och if i release the keys after HP logo, same result.

Whats wrong? Why can i not recover bios this way anymore?

Best Regards

Demir

Hi,

Thank you for the post and welcome to HP Forums
I understand your facing a concern with BIOS recovery

Default BIOS recovery process:

power off the NB.

press the power button by holding the windows+B keys.

do not release the windows+B keys till 30 sec after powering on the unit.

if this doesnot work, there is a 3in1 BIOS recovery tool available withch will help you to perform BIOS receovery and also update the BIOS.

Please find the step wise process with snaps for creating BIOS recovery tool:

Hope this has Helped

Hi,

Thank you for your reply..

3in1 BIOS recovery is not a BIOS version.

It is a process to perform BIOS recovery if the unit is unable to recover.

I have shared u the links for the toll and the process for performing the 3in1 BIOS.

try using the latest BIOS version and check if this helps.

BIOS recovery tool :

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html

You need to download the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics 3in1, Latest Version is : 3.9

Procedure to perform BIOS recovery:

Hope this has Helped

Hello

I dont think i really understand what to do.

I have downloaded the 3in1 app, made bootable USB, almost 2GB of data inside a 8GB USB-stick.

But i dont understand how i can recover bios with this? How should i boot from this stick?

Inside the stick there is BIOSCopy, and when i start this there is no 840 G3 or G4 to be choosen, and no 840 G3 or G4 in the list BIOSCopy.csv eather. And in the notepad document README_ReStart.txt, it says only 840 G1 and G2 are supported, nothing about G3 and G4.

I have now spended  3 hours on this 😞

But i have downloaded and made a recovery BIOS USB stick with another working 840 G4 and put the correct bios file under USB stick F:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current

I plug in the stick to computer, then press Windows key + B OR All arrow key together but none of them works.

I have tryed this on two other working laptops and this doesnt work on all of them.

So it seems 840 G3 and G4 maybe a special procedure?

Best Regards
