I'm working on a system repair for a friend and one of the things they requested was to have the BIOS admin password reset so they can tweak settings if needed. Most options I found online suggest resetting the EC, or unscrewing the back plate of the laptop to remove the CMOS battery to clear all of the settings. I tried both, and also left the unit without power for roughly 12 hours (which is typically way more than enough to delete CMOS data) and the system password was retained. As a last resort, I also attempted a BIOS recovery from a USB drive I created on a completely different system. No dice.

Is there actually a way to strip the password without physically replacing board chips?

Note: This is referring to the BIOS password that is only required when trying to boot from an external device or tweak firmware settings. The system can boot to Windows perfectly fine because there is not a disk password. If booting from a USB drive is necessary, it is still possible because of the existing boot priority, I will just have to remove the system hard drive.
