Hello everyone, I have read several articles in the forum and I cannot find an answer that solves the problem that I am facing and that I understand happens to other users...
I have an HP 17-cp0035cl (50U26UA) in an automatic Windows update the PC did not turn on again and the screen went black, I tried the proposed solution of window + B and updated with flash boot from a pendrive... the problem continues, it tells me that there is an error in the BIOS and I cannot access with Esc, F10, etc... The screen continues to be white, black, no image, no access to the BIOS...
Does anyone know a solution to the issue? I have already removed the battery, removed the memory, the disk, etc. I am still at the same point, I updated the BIOS and I am still the same!!!

Hi @Lalo_2024,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When dealing with a black screen and inability to access BIOS on an HP 17-cp0035cl laptop, especially after a failed Windows update, it suggests a serious issue that might involve hardware or firmware corruption. Here are steps you can take to try and resolve the issue:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn Off the Laptop: Make sure the laptop is powered off.
- Disconnect All Peripherals: Remove all external devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.).
- Remove the Battery: If the battery is removable, take it out. If not, skip this step.
- Press and Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any remaining electrical charge.
- Reconnect Power and Battery: Reconnect the power adapter and reinsert the battery if you removed it.
- Power On: Try turning the laptop on and see if it resolves the issue.
2. Reset BIOS/UEFI
If you can’t access the BIOS normally, try these methods:
BIOS Recovery Using a USB Drive:
- Prepare a USB Drive: Download the latest BIOS update for your model from the HP support website using another computer. Make sure the BIOS update is for your exact model.
- Create a Bootable USB: Use the HP BIOS Update tool or other utility to create a bootable USB drive with the BIOS update.
- Attempt Recovery: Insert the USB drive into your laptop, then try to initiate BIOS recovery by pressing Win + B or Win + V during power-up. You may need to hold these keys while pressing the power button.
Clear CMOS:
- Access the CMOS Battery: If you’re comfortable with opening the laptop, locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
- Remove CMOS Battery: Remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes to clear the BIOS settings. This might reset the BIOS to default.
- Reinstall the Battery: After waiting, put the CMOS battery back in and attempt to power on the laptop.
3. Check Hardware Connections
Reseat Components:
- Memory Modules: Remove and reseat the RAM sticks.
- Storage Drive: Ensure the hard drive or SSD is properly connected.
Inspect for Visible Damage: Look for any visible damage on the motherboard or components. If there’s visible damage, you might need to consult a professional for repair.
4. External Monitor Test
- Connect to an External Monitor: If you have a spare monitor, connect it to your laptop to check if there’s any display.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

hi Rachel
Thanks for your reply and for your guide, I have already done all the known and published procedures and I was not able to solve it, so I decided to investigate other means and resorted to buying a new pre-recorded BIOS and installing it... I will receive it in a few days and see if I can solve the problem...
Unfortunately, the software tools do not solve the problem, perhaps in the future the correction will be found that way, but I need something fast, since it is my work tool...
I bought it in a remanufactured eBay sale, it only lasted 2 months and is not guaranteed by HP
Thank you very much for your time...
