Hi
I have been having some issues on changing the BIOS settings on my HP Pavilion core-i5 4th gen laptop.
The problem is that that, as soon as I enter the BIOS menu, the menu options keep on shuffling automatically. The menu becomes unstable and doesn't stay still. E.g, when I move over to the time and date values, they keep on shuffling through the cycle of values (Max to min and back again, or vice-versa).
The values and menu options keep doing this for an infinity, unless I press the power button and go to Windows homescreen. Everything is working fine but the BIOS. I hope I can record a video of this BIOS tricky loop and show it.
I would like to add that I had faced, sometime previously, erratic keyboard behaviour and weird Windows behaviour on some features, after which I disabled the laptop keyboard and mouse using Windows group policy, and all problems vanished (more like a workaround), but I never had this original issue checked up. I think it may be the same acting up, but this time no workaround exists to change BIOS settings except actually entering BIOS module and doing it manually.
Thus, I cannot get the BIOS menu options to become stable, so that I may change some settings.
What might be causing this? Some ANTIVIRUS issue ? Please help.
Thanks

Hi Karan Gurtu,
From what you describe it is a keyboard problem. The keyboard was giving problems in Windows and you disabled it (probably certain keys are in constant "pressing" kind of situation). Disabling the keyboard in Windows will not disable the keyboard in BIOS, So you should either replace the keyboard or remove the cable which connects the keyboard to the motherboard ( and use the external keyboard in BIOS),
On pages 52-54 of the service manual you can see the steps to remove the keyboard (or just the cable). On page 51 of the service manual you can see the compatible keyboards for the notebook and part number. You have to know which layout you have at the moment. Yours will be "Textured island style black finish for use in"
So, for example the one for the United States has part number 719853-001
Example:
Hope it helps,
