My previous post seems to have been misunderstood.
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that has BIOS passwords set. When setting up the System password in BIOS, there is an option to bypass entering the password when restarting the computer after it had already been started from a power off state and the System or User password had already been entered. For example, when powering up the computer, the BIOS password must be entered prior to the boot process continuing. If, after logging into Windows, an update requires a restart, the computer can be restarted without having to re-enter the BIOS password. If the computer is shutdown and powered off, the BIOS password is required the next time the computer is powered on.
I have set up both BIOS passwords on my HP Notebook. There doesn't appear to an option to have a password bypass when setting the passwords in BIOS. This means that if re-installing Windows, for example, each time the computer does a restart the password has to be entered before installation can continue. The same situation exists when restarting after an update.
I admit it is more an inconvenience than a problem, but it would be helpful to be able to do this and allow the computer to perform an update without having to tend to it to enter the password when needed each time it reboots.
I am well aware of the hazards of forgetting the BIOS passwords and the difficulty of resetting a forgotten password. Perhaps someone at HP could look into this and see if there would be a way to incorporate this option in a future BIOS update.

Two things ...
First, as indicated by the previous response, we are PROHIBITED from assisting folks with bypassing passwords -- no matter WHY you want that done. So, asking again is going to only get the same response.
Second, you do realize these are the HP forums, not the Dell forums, right? For assistance with Dell issues, you need to go to their forums.

First, I mentioned the Dell as an example of what I was talking about regarding an HP notebook that I also own. Second, since BIOS is just software, I was wondering if I had missed something when I was setting up BIOS passwords. I certainly understand HP policy and why they are strict on actually circumventing computer security, which I am not trying to do.
After this response, I'll just stick to keeping my thoughts to myself.

First off, your Header clearly says Dell -- so I would have no way of knowing that was NOT the case with your PC.
Second, while BIOS is software (of a sort -- it's actually Firmware, which is slightly different) unlike other software is is NOT stored in a file system on the internal drive. Instead, it is stored in a chip on the motherboard and HP's policy, since they do not replace individual chips, is to replace the entire motherboard.

I have never seen a forum where moderators do not give answers to what are legitimate issues and not attempts to circumvent security protocol. I have to exact same problem with bios admin password being asked at every startup. I have the password i simply want to bypass this annoyance.
