Solved!

BIOS update and now just black screen on boot

Notebook 15-af152nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Received an update notice for BIOS & AMD and was dumb enough to think it'd actually work.

 

Ran update:

  1. Hard Drive spun up and started running, then ran for over two hours

  2. During this time msg popped up: Flashing Boot Block

                                                                     Flash Successful

  3. Shut system down, did Hard Restart, which didn't work.

 

When system boots up, just a black screen with hard drive spinning like its going to take off.  I just want to be able to get in, wipe the hard drive and load another operating system.

 

Idea?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

 

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

Bios Recovery using a key press combination:

  1. Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the Power button for 2 to 3 seconds.

  3. Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.

If this recovery method fails, use another working computer to create a BIOS recovery flash drive to install the latest BIOS file.

Finally got BIOS to reload and system is up and running.
