Hi HP tech community wizzards!
I am in dire need of a the latest BIOS flashable update, for a retired product HP Presario Compaq CQ61 420SQ!
It has light indicators for a BIOS corruption issue. I tried all types of resets including reseating the CMOS battery, but nothing helped. As it won't display any startup message I can't use the Win +B command (or it doesn't work)
Please if someone can share a download and instruction for flashing the BIOS via flash drive or other media, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hi:
I can't find any specs on that model.
Does it have an Intel or AMD processor?
All of the CQ61 BIOS files are exe files and are meant to be run in Windows.
I can probably find the latest BIOS file you need but I do not know how you flash the BIOS when you can't do it from Windows.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the quick reply!
I'll disassemble it to check. I think it was AMD by memory from the last thermal paste change. Anyway I have a running laptop that I will use to create the USB bootable one I saw here:

Then I will have to figure out a way to boot it, either that or I will go optical.
Let me know if there is anything more I can get for you?

You're very welcome.
I don't believe that video is applicable to the old model notebooks like yours.
Is there a product number on the label where the serial number is?

If I can look that up in the HP part surfer website, it should tell me what processor was installed.
Getting you the file should not be a problem but giving you the wrong one won't help.

Hi:
If you believe that your notebook has an AMD processor, you can use the BIOS update file from this model which also has an AMD processor.
This is a very reputable 3rd party driver website.

The entire CQ61-400 model series with the AMD processors use the same BIOS files:
