From two year ago, a Linux user came up with a workaround to flash a new BIOS version on a notebook

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Linux-HP-Elitebook-2570p-UEFI-BIOS-update-fai...

despite failures in the process as written on the HP website.

The final result in preparing a USB drive to update the flash is to format the drive, name it, and put a few files on it.  The new BIOS is distribute as a .exe file that requires a Windows machine and  InstallShield.  I would sure appreciate a distribution of those few files that I could copy to a prepared USB drive from my Linux machine.  Why all the girations and problems with the .exe version?  What is InstallShield protecting?  Why does running the BIOS 15 .exe file always throw the error "failed to extract cab"?  Is there any support for Linux users at HP?  I thought there would be when I saw some computers sold with Linux installed, but that was not found to be true.  What's up?

The basic situation is that HP does not provide consumer-level Linux support.

As to the BIOS update files, HP distributes those as self-extracting EXE files intended to be run in Windows -- which is why those of us that have used Linux PCs for a long time CONTINUE to maintain dual-boot PCs.

That said, the Windows archive utility 7-zip can extract the contents of the HP BIOS update file and then you would have the components you need to do the BIOS update manually, including the BIN file.
