HP Omen
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Updated to the latest Win10 Feature Update and now computer wont boot.

Discovered I need to update BIOS. So, tried to download and run the HP BIOS update tool on a dell laptop I have to create a USB recovery flash drive for BIOS update using the guide at: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00007682

I'm trying to do the third option - "Update the BIOS manually from within Windows"

The tool initially runs and I get to step 8. After step 8, I get a pop up screen that says: "Location to Save Files" and prompts me to save to C:\SWSetup\SP106138\

I accept that and click "Next" and the installer extracts the EXE file to the directory, and a UAC prompt pops up like it wants to start the BIOS tool, but nothing happens after that!

I've also tried going into that directory and running the 08309F25.exe file directly, but again, it gives me a UAC warning, and after I click proceed, nothing happens.

I need to be able to run this on a non-HP computer to create a BIOS recovery flash drive. How can I do this?

Solved this, so I figured I would post the solution. I ended up having to spin up a temp win10 pro VM in my VMware workstation pro environment. I linked the USB drive to the VM, and then the recovery creation tool worked properly. I'm guessing you could also do it using VirtualBox or your virtualization hypervisor of choice.
