I have tried to update my laptop BIOS. After writing the new BIOS it tries to verify it but fails. It repeates writing and trying to verify a few times and then comes up with an error saying that it cannot verify and then the laptop restarts and boots back into Windows.

Hi. I looked at that article, so far I tried just selecting "update BIOS on this device". I tried creating a recovery USB and found out that my system board ID is 2293. When I went to select the BIOS update file I did not find any with the right name. Does this mean that there is no update for my device? or just that I am using the wrong BIOS updater?

I'm installing the updates using the HP Notebook System BIOS Update from the software and drivers page for my laptop. I think the only other problem I have had is with the BIOS. It won't save any changes, that is mainly why I am trying to update it. I have recently re-installed windows 10 but didn't think that it would effect the BIOS.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

I understand the issue better now.

Follow the steps below to fix the issue.

Start with a hard reset to release any excessive static on the PC:

  • If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

  • If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  • With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  • With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Attempt to reset or recover the existing BIOS (if the recent update was interrupted): Click here

(restoring BIOS on notebook: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833)

Step 1: Verify the current BIOS version installed and the correct ROM Family SSID for your PC

Step 2: Find the BIOS updates

Step 3: Download and install the BIOS update

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Hi, sorry for the long gap in time since I first asked for assistance.

I'm still having a problem updating the BIOS on my laptop. I have tried the methods above but all of them have failed.

The first image shows the computer information from "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows" program. It shows the System ID as 2293.

The second image shows the location of the BIOS update file which the BIOS updater downloaded. The file is called "2292" rather than "2293". Is it possible to download a copy of the update for my laptop BIOS with the System ID of 2293?

PS: The laptop still boots into Windows and Windows is not in any way affected. The problem I am encountering is only with the BIOS and not with the OS.

Thanks

A.T.

Hi. I still have not found a solution yet but I have not really been looking. The laptop still works as it is so I have just left it. I have tried using the hp BIOS updater and going into the BIOS and updating it with the file that the updater downloaded but it does not verify the update. I mentioned earlier that I think that hp have not made an update for this motherboard yet.

Please contact me if you do find a solution.
