Hi Everyone,

In short, I opened my HP Assistant icon.

I was required to do an update on my BIOS?

As like any other requirement, I followed the instructions as always.

It was writing new BIOS image when suddenly, a window popped up telling me that the update cannot happen..

Then it gave me :

There is an issue with the TMP (Trusted Platform Module) data.

Press Y - Reset whole TPM

Press N - boot with current TPM data

Note: Bitlocker may require the recovery key to boot to Windows.

I opted N. If it is configured correctly, Shouldn't the system then proceed with its current TPM?

Now everytime I start up my laptop or restart if needed, I end uo on the same Y or N screen.

Any assistance would certainly be appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi @IamDean,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) on your laptop after attempting to update the BIOS. The TPM is a security feature that helps protect your system by storing cryptographic keys and other sensitive data.

When you encountered the prompt asking to reset the TPM or boot with current TPM data, opting for "N" should have allowed your system to boot using the current TPM data. However, it seems like you're stuck in a loop where the prompt appears every time you start or restart your laptop.

Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Reboot and Try Again: Sometimes, issues like this can be resolved with a simple reboot. Try restarting your laptop and see if the prompt still appears. If it does, proceed to the next steps.
  • Clear TPM: Since you're getting the prompt to reset the TPM, you might want to try resetting it to see if that resolves the issue. Press "Y" to reset the TPM as prompted. This action will clear the TPM and may resolve the issue. Keep in mind that if you have BitLocker enabled, you may need the recovery key to boot into Windows after resetting the TPM.
  • Check BIOS Settings: Enter your BIOS settings and look for any options related to the TPM. Ensure that the TPM is enabled and configured correctly. Sometimes, a misconfiguration in the BIOS can cause issues with the TPM.
  • Update BIOS: If possible, try updating the BIOS again. Make sure you're using the correct BIOS update for your laptop model and follow the instructions carefully. Sometimes, a failed BIOS update can cause issues with the TPM.

It's important to be cautious when dealing with BIOS and TPM settings, as incorrect changes can potentially cause further issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
