I had bought a (like new) refurbished Elitebook 840 G1. Warranty now expired.
And I never had to get into the BIOS, until now. Windows update removed any touchscreen or bluetooth functionality.
But, the BIOS is password protected, and the password was not provided with my purchase.
Earlier, and now archived forum posts here mentioned that you could contact HP support and they'd get you the . bin file to remove the password from the BIOS.
Its just an update that I'm memorializing here: HP support informed me that they no longer will do that, unless it's a billable event ($$$), or you can take the product to an authorized HP service center (amount likewise unknown).

I'm really sorry that we can not help you with this, but Community policy prohibits us from assisting you in any way with bypassing or resetting passwords.
For BIOS or power-on password resets, read this HP thread: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06368824.
If you are not prepared to spend the money to get HP to replace the motherboard for BIOS password resets, you could take the PC to a local repair facility to see if they can do it for you -- but we are unable to assist in that.
