HP Envy laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am very upset. All of a sudden a blue screen mentioning Bitlocker Key has blocked my entire HP Envy. I have tried many attempts to fix it and nothing has worked. I dont know the key. I need URGENT support as this issue causes me to lose a lot of work.

The so called  "this is for your own security" is pure BS. My computer doesnt belong to Microsoft or HP and none of these companies should find it alright to block access of my own property.

Hi:

I had the exact same thing happen to me.

I got a new Envy 360 15" PC last month.  It came with W10 Home.

All my other PC's have W10 Pro which allows you to set up a local account right from the beginning.

I couldn't set up my PC initially with an offline account.

I looked everywhere to do it and came up empty-handed.

I was forced to create a Microsoft account with a user name and password.

After I did that, the PC finished setting up.

I immediately went into the settings afterward and changed my user account to a local (offline) account.

I was prompted to do a BIOS update a few days later, and when it was finished, I got the blue screen about a Bitlocker key.

I had no clue what that was about, but knew then and there I was in big trouble.

Anyway, I found this link...apparently when you initially set up your Microsoft user account to set up the PC, it automatically stores the Bitlocker key online.

Thank heavens I remembered my Microsoft user name and password I set up.

See this link for how to retrieve your bitlocker key.

I copied the key to a text file, and saved it on a portable hard drive for safekeeping, so now I have two ways to recover it.

The issue here is that I am abroad and i cannot even get into my Microsoft account. Otherwise I knew where to get my Bitlocker key. The security SMS from Microsoft doesnt even come to my phone! A real nightmare i am telling you.

That is why I most likely need a solution thru the F10 or F11 BIOS. Some Youtube videos show how to get over Bitlocker and bypass it on Asus PCs for example. Still unclear with HP...
