I attempted to update the BIOS on an HP Pavilion laptop model 15-bs115dx running Windows 10. It appears the BIOS update process didn't complete. The laptop turns on but the screen is simply black. No cursor or flashing lights. I have tried all of the Windows + keystroke combinations and the USB flash drive. No change.
I can hear the computer turn off, but when it turns on there is no sound from the fan or hard drive.
Any suggestions about what has failed?

Hi @BT2466,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.
I see that you are facing an issue with your Laptop that is not booting up after BIOS update.
Follow the below steps to fix the issue.
-Perform a power drain on your PC.
1) Unplug the power cord from the PC & wall.
2) Disconnect the power cable from the AC adapter if it is a detachable part and keep it aside.
3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
4) Plug the power cord back into the AC adapter, then connect it to the wall and to the charging port on your PC.
5) Power on the PC and recover the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.
Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps if it boots into windows.
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Thanks for your quick response. My laptop did turn on after draining the power, but I tried all of the methods for recovering the BIOS that were suggested by your link and the screen is still black. No instructions appeared at all. If my hard drive has failed, can you tell me the part number for a compatible drive? I cannot find anything in the manual except a circuit board for the USB.
I have worked on laptops before, but it's been a while. I think I can replace the drive if I can find a suitable replacement.
