Hi all,

When I bought my laptop and configured bios to be password protected.

Lately wanted to look into BIOS (for function buttons change, as I prefer to use F1-F12 without FN button)

and realised my BIOS is password protected but dont remember which password it was.

Computer returns a code after few trials.

Any help pls

Hi:

Please post the code you received, and I will see if I can generate an unlock passcode for you...

You need to enter any P/W 3 times for the notebook to generate the system disabled code.

Thanks Paul,

I managed to find the password for it.

I was bit scared to type passwords so many times thinking it could block my computer...Im just curious...the code can be generated to sort it out from that ,,system disabled'' code?

You're very welcome.

Yes on most consumer class notebooks we can generate BIOS P/W unlock codes from the system disabled code generated by the notebook.

The only time we can't, is if the code generated is a hexidecimal code (one with letters and numbers).

The plain 8 digit system disabled codes, and the ones with a small letter 'i' in front of the 8 digit code, we can generate unlock passcodes for.

We can also do that for a very limited number of entry level business class notebook PC's that generate the 8 digit codes with or without the 'i,' but for most of the business notebooks, we can't, as they do not generate any codes.
