Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an OMEN by HP 15-ax252nr Laptop.  The battery was not charging so I replaced it and no change. I downloaded the latest BIOS to update it according to the tech support notes.  The BIOS update failed and now the laptop will not boot.  The laptop is still alive because the keyboard lights come on at boot but the screen stays black. I cannot get the laptop to respond to any combination of keys on boot.  Can anyone help?

The only suggestion I can offer would be to use another PC to make a USB BIOS recovery flash drive with the latest BIOS update file.

Watch these two videos at the links below for how to make and use the BIOS recovery flash drive to update the BIOS outside of Windows:

Best progress yet!  I deleted the copies of the BIOS files that I already had downloaded and started fresh going by the steps outlined in the videos you sent.  Maybe I should use an earlier version of the BIOS?

Yes, I would give that a try.

Looking at the release notes under the Revision History section of the BIOS link I posted, you should at least be able to go back to F.55 and F.36

Not sure what the message "NOTE: HP strongly recommends transitioning promptly to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases' on the F.36 BIOS release notes.

It might mean that you can't go back to a version earlier than F.36.

Hi Paul,

I downloaded all the other versions from your BIOS link.  No change.

HP BIOS Update and Recovery Utility included
F.56 Rev.A    sp111733      update failed but display worked
F.55 Rev.A    sp106009      released keys Win + B when USB detected and communicated with, laptop rebooted once but no changes, black screen
F.53 Rev.A    sp101121      released keys Win + B when USB detected and communicated with, laptop rebooted once but no changes, black screen
F.52 Rev.A    sp96552        released keys Win + B when USB detected and communicated with, laptop rebooted once but no changes, black screen
F.48 Rev.A    sp88780        released keys Win + B when USB detected and communicated with, laptop rebooted once but no changes, black screen

All versions from F.46 to F.36 did not have the recovery utility. I ran the downloaded executable file. The folders are created on my drive under SWSetup but the HP BIOS Update and Recovery Utility not included in download to create the bootable thumb drive. Do you know if I can manually copy the boot files onto the thumb drive?
F.46 Rev.A sp85678
F.45 Rev.A sp85194
F.42 Rev.A sp82649
F.38 Rev.A sp80918
F.36 Rev.A sp79827

Hi:

Sorry that none of the previous BIOS updates worked.

I don't believe that there is a way to make a recovery drive out of the files that are extracted in the SWSetup folder.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions for you to try other than to take it into your local PC repair shop and see if they can reflash the BIOS if it is not too expensive to do that.
