VXI have tried twice to update my BIOS to the recommended F.48 From F.42 and both times the process took two or three hours to get a little past 25% then fails and reboot into the windows OS. Since the first failed attempt, whenever I try to turn the GSYNC capability on it produces stuttering in video games. Is there any solution to this?

Hello, I've read your help request on my Omen W-102NL topic, my old thread from february. The solution is very simple. You need to follow these steps in order to update the BIOS:
1) MOST IMPORTANT THING - download and install the latest UEFI Diagnostic Tool from HP Official website. Google it to find it.
2) Download your New BIOS Version and install it from windows. Select the "Update" option. Your pc will restart and you'll reach the BIOS update screen. A system message will tell you to select one of the options available. DO NOT SELECT "INSTALL/UPDATE" OPTION. Select "Cancel" option before the timer reaches zero.
3) System will restart. Reboot again your system and press ESC key in order to go to the startup menu. You'll see a list of options. Press F2 to go to the System Diagnostics.
4) In System Diagnostics press ENTER on the "Firmware Management" option. A screen will tell about your current BIOS version and the version you're going to install. INSTALL it.
5) Enjoy. Don't touch your system and let the computer do its job. BIOS update should complete without a problem.
Repeat Step 2,3,4 and 5 for every new BIOS update otherwise it won't work.
Remember: the most important thing to do is updating the UEFI Diagnostic Tool. If you won't update it, nothing will work.
This method works for all the new BIOS updates for my Omen W-102NL.
I hope you'll be able to fix your problem.

I tried again, and still cannot get the bios to complete. Same symptoms, it goes very very slowly, and afer a couple hours is only about 25% and then fails somewhere round 25 to 30% without updating to the version F.48

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post where you require assistance regarding updating the bios. I'll be glad to assist you.
Splendid effort and fabulous description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you recently made any changes on the PC before the issue started?
Have you tried to update the bios from HP support assistant?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
-
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
-
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
-
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
Let's rollback the Bios to the previous version, for more assistance, please follow this link: HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS
Step 1: Verify the current BIOS version installed and the correct ROM Family SSID for your PC
Step 2: Find the BIOS updates
Step 3: Download and install the BIOS update
update the bios from here: Click this link and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Then check the version of the bios. If this does not work, please download and run the HP support assistant to detect the bios and other drivers and install it. Please check this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467905 Please follow the steps from this link and follow the option under “My Devices - Specifications, troubleshooting, and device specific information” and “Checking for HP updates” This should do the trick for you.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hello and thank you for your help and response.
I followed the instructions you have provided, and the bios will still not update. When I use attempt the bios update either from the stand alone file in Windows or from the HP support Assistant, it acts like it is working and says a restart is necessary so I click on the "Restart Now" button.
The computer restarts and goes to an update BIOS screen and begins the bios update. It takes a VERY long time, wrting a few blocks in a minute and after a couple hours is only at about 25%. Somewhere before 30% the bios appears to fail and the computer restarts and boots into Windows. The bios remains at F.42
I tried the Hard reset before attempting the bios update.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

I found something similar to my problem here:
The solution appears to be updating to 6.5 uefi, and running bios update from there? I’m not sure how to do that. Is that something I should try? The problem description sounds almost exactly like mine.
