Elitebook 2170p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I did buy a used Elitebook 2170p and I installed a new windows 10 pro. Now HP support assistant says I need to update bios. When i did start the update it keeps asking for bios password... help please

Sorry, but if it already has a BIOS password, there's no way simply to get around that, and you won't be able to do a BIOS update as a result.

 

A BIOS password is an especially  BAD situation for a used PC because, that password is encoded into the firmware of a chip soldered to the motherboard, and the only way to reset that, since the chip can't be replaced, is to replace the motherboard.

 

HP will do this if requested but they will charge you for it and you are probably looking at around $200 USD to start.
