HP Notebook - 17-y009cy

Hello, I have an old laptop on which has the latest bios from 2020 with a boot looping problem. It has a fully installed windows, but the computer doesn't boot into it. Instead it just power ons and goes to a black screen and powers off. In order to get into Windows I have to spam the f9 key which gets me into the boot menu, if I select the drive or any other option it goes back to boot looping. The order to get past this I instead have to manually go select the uefi file itself through the boot options.  Now I have tried to fix this issue by going into the bios and changing it into legacy mode and other stuff but when I do save and exit, it goes back to boot looping and doesn't save the settings at all. I have startup repair tools that I could try but my main issue right now is getting the bios to save the settings, I have changed the cmos battery once since I discovered this issue aswell.I even tried to roll back my bios but there was only 1 available bios on the HP website for this laptop and it was the one I had install which I know isn't the one it came with since the laptops WAY older. So if anyone has any idea how to get the bios to save or where to find old bios updates I can roll back too, I would appreciate it.

Hi @Uramu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with your HP Notebook's BIOS not saving settings, there are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Reset BIOS settings: Start by resetting the BIOS settings to their default values. To do this, restart your notebook and enter the BIOS setup by pressing a specific key (such as Esc, F10, or F2) during the boot process. Look for an option like "Restore Defaults" or "Load Setup Defaults" and select it. Save the changes and exit the BIOS. See if the settings are now being saved properly.
  • Update BIOS firmware: It's possible that the issue is due to outdated or buggy BIOS firmware. Visit the HP support website and enter your notebook's model number to find the latest BIOS update. Follow the instructions provided to download and install the update. Be sure to carefully read and follow all instructions to avoid any potential risks associated with updating the BIOS.
  • Clear CMOS: If resetting the BIOS settings and updating the firmware didn't resolve the issue, you can try clearing the CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor). This process resets the BIOS to its default configuration. First, shut down your notebook and disconnect the power cable. Open the back cover of your laptop and locate the CMOS battery (a small round battery on the motherboard). Remove the battery and wait for about 5-10 minutes. Then, reinsert the battery and close the cover. Restart your notebook and see if the BIOS settings can now be saved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried all these options. I'm trying to find old bios versions for the Notebook - 17-Y009cy but there's literally only 1 bios on the hp sites and I can't find archives of it. At this point I think that could be the only fix
