HP 15 Laptop PC 15-e3000 (4X377AV)

One of our HP laptops (device name: LAPTOP-4D2F5FA0) is currently locked by BitLocker and is asking for the 48-digit recovery key.
Unfortunately, we are unable to retrieve the key due to the following circumstances:

  • The device was not joined to Azure AD

  • It was not managed via Intune or a local domain

  • It uses a local account only

  • The user does not have a Microsoft account connected

  • No recovery key was manually saved or printed

We suspect the BitLocker prompt was triggered after a failed software upgrade attempt.
Now we are completely locked out, and there is no recovery key in our possession.

We would like to know:

  1. Does HP store or provision BitLocker recovery keys during OEM deployment or factory setup?

  2. Is there any way to retrieve the key through HP support, assuming the device was pre-encrypted at shipment?

The BitLocker Recovery Key ID shown on screen is:
CDE2CA51-F115-4023-A3FF-113D396BE901

Any advice or assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Best regards,

Keer

Hi, Keer:

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do other than to reinstall Windows on the encrypted drive so the PC can be used again.

HP has no record of Bitlocker recovery keys, Windows product keys, etc.
