OMEN Laptop - 15-ek0004nt
Microsoft Windows 11

Greetings everyone, I have an HP OMEN 15-ek0004nt laptop with RTX 2070 max q. The problem I have is when I'm trying to use my discrete graphics card instead of my PC's onboard GPU I get a black screen, I still hear the opening noise of Windows 11 though. My bios version is the latest, I've tried three or four Nvidia drivers in order to fix the issue (including one hotfix driver) and I've also tried changing the GPU setting from the bios aside from the HP Omen Gaming Hub, but none of those worked. I would really appreciate any solution ideas because it really is a pain in the neck.

Hi @MelihW,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd like to help!

I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.

It sounds like you're encountering a problem with your OMEN Laptop where the screen goes black when using the discrete graphics card. This issue might be due to various reasons, such as driver issues, hardware problems, or settings conflicts. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your discrete graphics card. Visit the manufacturer's website (NVIDIA or AMD) to download and install the most recent drivers compatible with your laptop model.

Switch Graphics Settings: Some laptops allow you to switch between integrated and discrete graphics. Try accessing your laptop's BIOS or graphics settings (usually done by pressing a specific key during startup) and switch the graphics mode to see if it resolves the black screen issue.

Check Display Settings: Sometimes, incorrect display settings can cause this problem. Right-click on the desktop, select "Display Settings," and ensure that the correct display is selected and configured properly.

Run Hardware Diagnostics: Use built-in diagnostic tools or third-party software to check for any hardware issues. Sometimes, faulty hardware components can cause display problems.

Reset Graphics Settings: Resetting your graphics settings to default values might help. Access your graphics control panel (NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon Settings) and reset all settings to default.

Disable and Re-enable the Graphics Card: Go to Device Manager, find your discrete graphics card, right-click, and select "Disable." After a few moments, right-click again and select "Enable" to see if it resolves the issue.

Check for Overheating: Overheating can cause the graphics card to malfunction. Ensure your laptop's cooling system is functioning correctly and use software to monitor the temperature of your GPU.

Contact Support: If none of the above steps work, it might indicate a more serious hardware issue. Contact phone support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
