HP Notebook - 15-bs107nt

I was helping a relative install Windows 11 on their HP laptop (model 15-bs107nt,  when I noticed the BIOS was still on the factory version. The HP Assistant app didn't show the latest update, so I searched by serial number on the website and updated it to the latest version, F.75 Rev.A. The update finished successfully, but despite waiting for hours and trying every troubleshooting step—Win+B/Win+V key combinations, removing the battery, checking the RAM—the screen won't turn on. It seems like an issue with HP's software; I found online that others have faced this problem, though most managed to fix it. Unfortunately, my attempts haven't worked. It’s very frustrating—the device is already old and sluggish, so paying for repairs makes no sense, yet it broke simply because I updated it. When I press the power button, the fan spins up and gets louder, but the screen stays blank. When I turn it off, there’s a brief flicker of color—like a lighter shade of black—as if the screen were shutting down. There are no Caps Lock lights or beep codes either. Please help.

Hi,

First, please remove the serial number from your public post. Serial numbers should only be shared with HP Support privately.

Since the fan turns on but the screen stays blank immediately after a BIOS update, this is most likely a BIOS/firmware recovery situation, not a Windows 11 installation issue.

I would suggest stopping Windows troubleshooting for now and focusing only on BIOS recovery.

Please try this:

  1. Disconnect all external devices:
    • USB drives
    • HDMI
    • memory cards
    • printer
    • external keyboard/mouse
  2. Connect the AC adapter directly to a wall outlet.
  3. Perform a power reset:
    • Turn the notebook off.
    • Disconnect AC power.
    • Hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
    • Reconnect AC power and try again.
  4. Try HP BIOS recovery again using the exact HP timing:
    • Turn the notebook off.
    • Connect AC power.
    • Press and hold Windows + B.
    • While holding those keys, press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
    • Release only the power button.
    • Keep holding Windows + B for another 10–15 seconds.
    • Wait several minutes.

If that does not start recovery, repeat the same method with Windows + V.

HP BIOS recovery guide:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16

  1. If internal BIOS recovery does not start, create a BIOS recovery USB on another Windows PC using the BIOS package from the official HP support page for the exact model:

HP Notebook 15-bs107nt drivers:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-15-bs100-laptop-pc/model/18163803

Then insert the USB recovery drive into the affected notebook and repeat the Windows + B recovery method.

Also test with an external HDMI monitor. If the external monitor shows the HP logo or BIOS recovery screen while the internal display stays blank, then the display panel/cable may be involved. If both internal and external displays remain blank after the BIOS update, then BIOS recovery or service is the correct next step.

Since there are no Caps Lock blink codes and the notebook still powers on, I would not keep removing RAM or repeating random key combinations. Use the official BIOS recovery method and the correct BIOS recovery USB. If the recovery USB does not start at all, the BIOS chip may need service-level reprogramming or the system board may need repair.

I understand the frustration, but at this point this should be handled as a failed BIOS recovery/firmware issue rather than a Windows driver issue.

Hello, I've tried everything. After updating the BIOS, the update finished, and it shut down to restart on the screen that said it would restart, but the screen never came back; it remained black. When I turn off the PC, it seems like the screen is black again, with a momentary response, but it never gets out of the black screen.
