HP spectre x360 13-ac052na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop turned black in the middle of using it. It started making very strange beeping sounds and just turned off. Then, when pressing the power button, the only thing that happens is the caps lock key keeps flashing, 5 long flashes followed by 3 short ones. Sometimes it switches to two long and two short flashes. I'm not sure what to do, every suggestion I found on the Internet so far hasn't worked. Please help!

The embedded controller cannot find valid firmware.
Disconnect the power supply and power the computer with battery power. This resets the Embedded Controller/Keyboard Controller.
  1. Unplug the AC power from the computer.
  2. Press and hold the power button for more than 12 seconds.
  3. Release the power button (after at least 12 seconds).
The computer powers on and should boot normally.
  4. Re-connect the AC power to the computer.
5.3 (blink)

The embedded controller times out waiting for the BIOS.
Remove all accessory devices from the notebook.
If the error code persists, contact support for possible repair.
5.4 (blink/beep)
System board
The embedded controller times out waiting for the BIOS to return from system board initialization (end of POST).

There is, of course, only one solution for failed hardware.

If the error will not clear, contact HP Support or your local repair house.

Hey peeps so I've had the blinking caps lock recurring now for the last week, I'd fixed it before doing hard reset but now that's not even working.  The unique solution i have at present is to do the hard reset and holding down power button without battery inserted to completely discharge the computer then upon reconnecting AC hold down the power button and the windows key and B for 1 second and it should reboot the BIOS and then restart the com automatically after a prompt.  You will need to be connected to the internet to sign-in and access your desktop and maybe asked to provide further security checks as the securities are also deleted from the procedure.  Hope this helps albeit temporarily.  Good luck
