I’ve had this issue before where my laptop will power on but then I have a black screen that flashes white every so often, and I had to like hit the windows button while pressing an F- something button to reset it, does any of this sound familiar cuz my laptop is doing this again.

Thank you for getting back to me. The model number is 14-dq0080nr. I was on my computer, and **bleep** the top. The next time I went to power it on, that’s when the black screen appeared. On the caps it is showing 5 long blinks and 3 short blinks. I have tried every step you sent me except for booking it up to another monitor. I’ve had this for a little over a year and this is the second time this has happened. When the first time happened, I called in support and we fixed it by the guy going into my computer and telling me what to do. But I don’t remember the steps he did with me. This time, it happened not quite two weeks after my warranty expired. So he couldn’t help me, which is very frustrating because I’ve been with you guys for a couple of years and I would have thought that the same problem, I would get the help, no problem.

Hi @krispina,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact model number of your HP laptop.
  • Whether the issue started after a Windows update, BIOS update, or suddenly without changes.
  • If you notice any beeping sounds, blinking lights, or unusual fan behavior when the screen stays black.

few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Hard Reset:
    • Disconnect the AC adapter
    • Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to discharge residual power.
    • Reconnect only the AC adapter and try powering on.
  2. BIOS Recovery Attempt:
    • With the laptop off, press and hold Windows + B (or Windows + V on some models).
    • While holding the keys, press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the power button but keep holding the keys until you see the BIOS recovery screen.
  3. External Display Test:
    • Connect the laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or VGA.
    • This helps determine if the issue is with the internal display or the system itself.
  4. Safe Mode Boot:
    • If the HP logo appears, try pressing F11 repeatedly to access recovery options.
    • From there, attempt to boot into Safe Mode to see if the system loads.
  5. HP Hardware Diagnostics:
  • Restart the laptop and press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run a system test to check for hardware issues.

I hope this helps.

Hi @krispina,

Thanks for your response.

The 5 long blinks and 3 short blinks you’re describing typically indicate a hardware-related issue, most commonly associated with the system board . Since you’ve already tried all the recommended troubleshooting steps ,it does suggest that this may not be a software-related problem that can be resolved remotely through basic resets.
