Hi @Pk7079,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 15s laptop is showing a black screen with only the power indicator on, there could be several possible reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem.
- Check power supply: Ensure that the laptop is receiving power from the AC adapter and that the battery is not drained. Try plugging in the laptop to a different power outlet or using a different AC adapter if possible.
- Perform a hard reset: Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if it's removable). Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power from the system. Then reconnect the AC adapter (without the battery) and try turning on the laptop.
- External display: Connect an external monitor to the laptop to see if you get any display on the external screen. If you do, it could indicate a problem with the laptop's built-in display.
- Check for LED indicators: Apart from the power indicator, are there any other LED lights blinking or staying on? These indicators might provide clues about what's causing the issue.
- Hardware failure: If none of the above steps work, it's possible that there's a hardware failure, such as a faulty motherboard, graphics card, or display.
- BIOS reset: In some cases, resetting the BIOS settings to default can help resolve boot issues. This process usually involves pressing a specific key (like F2 or Del) during startup to access the BIOS settings and then selecting an option to reset to default settings.
- Boot into Safe Mode: If the laptop manages to boot but with no display, try booting into Safe Mode. This will load the basic drivers and might help diagnose any software-related issues.
- Memory/RAM: If you're comfortable doing so, try reseating the RAM modules in their slots. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause startup issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
