My HP Laptop will not boot if connected to my Razer Core X via thunderbolt.   Both the laptop (open) and monitor display blank screen.

Waiting for the Windows Login Screen and connecting will allow the eGPU to work normally.

Hi@rhalabicki, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

From their comments, it sounds like a BIOS mod is needed to make this work.

That, coupled with replacing HP pre-installed hardware with third-party hardware almost certainly voids your warranty.

  • Have you tried with the original GPU adaptor?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset:

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Remove the Battery. ( not for Built-in Battery computer )

4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.

5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer if it's a (removable battery)

6) Try to turn on the computer and check.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

if you read, you'll see, booting without the egpu works, but if the laptop restart or trying to boot with the egpu connected it won't go, just black screen.

I have no doubt its a bios issue.
