HP Pavilion - 15-cs3073cl
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone, as mentioned in the title my screen goes blank after installing my new SSD.
HP Pavilion 15-cs3xxx | Intel Core i7-1065G7 | 8GB DDR4 | Nvidia MX250
Current/old SSD: SK hynix BC711 HFM256GD3JX013N 256.1 GB
New SSD: Toshiba THNSF5512GPUK 512 GB
So I want to do a fresh install, I have the USB created using MS official mediacreationtool. The problem is that as soon as I connect the SSD drive and power on the laptop I get a blank screen (not pitch black but rather slightly lit up).
What I have tried so far:
- Test the SSD in my desktop PC, works and detects just fine.
- Install Windows on it using the PC still no boot (on the laptop) , formatting also doesn't help.
- Tried to trick the system by first launching the installer and then connecting the SSD drive still no luck.
- Got into BIOS by using the "Repair my PC" option in the installer, but no signs of detection. Also tried using diskpart in CMD to see if the drive got detected (no luck).
- BIOS updated to latest F.23, and tried to install/load RST driver during installation it just gets stuck in a loop.
Potentially important info: My old SSD shows a "Standard" of NVM express 1.3 in CrystalDiskMark while the "new" SSD shows NVM express 1.0/1.1.

Hi @Talha37,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're facing a blank screen issue after installing a new SSD in your HP Pavilion - 15-cs3073cl. This is a compatibility or firmware-related issue. Here's how you can troubleshoot and resolve it.

1. Check SSD Compatibility

Your original SSD supports NVMe 1.3, while the new Toshiba SSD supports NVMe 1.0/1.1. This could be a compatibility issue with the laptop’s BIOS or NVMe controller. HP laptops can be picky with SSD firmware versions.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Hold the power button for 15 seconds to drain residual power.
  • Reconnect the power and try booting again.

3. Try Booting Without SSD

  • Remove the new SSD.
  • Boot the laptop using the USB installation media.
  • If it boots, then insert the SSD after reaching the Windows setup screen (hot-plugging). This sometimes helps the BIOS recognize the drive.

4. Use the HP Cloud Recovery Tool

If the BIOS doesn’t detect the SSD, try using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool:

5. Update UEFI Diagnostics

If the SSD is blank, it may lack HP’s UEFI diagnostics partition. Install the latest UEFI diagnostics:

6. Try a Different SSD

If none of the above works, consider testing with another SSD that supports NVMe 1.3 or higher, as your laptop may not fully support older NVMe versions.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
