Hi @Kb2221,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out. This sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when your laptop is essential for your photo editing work. The issue you're describing black screen after login with a visible lock screen problem that can be caused by several things, including:
Common Causes
- Corrupted user profile or system files
- Display driver issues
- Fast Startup or hibernation glitches
- Third-party software conflicts
Step-by-Step Fixes to Try
1. Boot into Safe Mode
This helps determine if a driver or startup program is causing the issue.
- Hold Shift and click Restart from the login screen (bottom right power icon).
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Press 4 or F4 to boot into Safe Mode.
If the screen works in Safe Mode:
- Uninstall any recent apps or updates.
- Update or roll back your display driver via Device Manager.
2. Use Ctrl + Shift + Esc
- After logging in and seeing the black screen, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- If it opens, go to File > Run new task, type explorer.exe, and press Enter.
- If your desktop appears, the issue is likely with Windows Explorer not starting properly.
3. Disable Fast Startup
If you can access Safe Mode or Task Manager:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save.
4. System Restore
If the issue started recently:
- Boot into Advanced Startup Options (Shift + Restart).
- Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
- Choose a restore point before the issue began.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
