HP Notebook - 14-an009na (ENERGY STAR)

My laptop boots up ok, after a 60-second delay with a blank screen.

I can see from the BIOS error log that there's an error 00A which is "Product information not valid", however that's not displayed on the screen at boot - the backlight comes on but the screen stays black with no text.  This happens on the internal display and also when an external display is plugged in. Pressing Enter results in the HP logo appearing immediately and proceeding to boot the OS, so I believe that the laptop should be displaying the error message and waiting for keyboard input.

Similarly, when I want to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS and boot from a USB storage device, I believe that a PIN should be displayed on the screen on the next boot and I should be asked to enter it to confirm that Secure Boot should be disabled. Again, the screen's backlight comes on but the screen stays black, so I cannot see what the PIN is. Pressing Escape lets me proceed to boot the OS from the internal hard disk, without disabling Secure Boot.

So:
* Is there a fix for this problem?

* If not, is there a way to work out what the PIN for the Secure Boot change is, or is it randomly generated every time in a way that can't be predicted?

Hi @Sandytechy20

Thanks for responding to me!

The notebook *does* boot into the installed OS. The problem is that there are some messages that should be displayed before the OS boots but I can't see them.

For example, I mentioned that I want to disable Secure Boot (so that I can boot with an unsigned EFI file on a USB stick). When I disable Secure Boot in the BIOS and reboot, I get a blank screen with the backlight on, whereas I should see a message asking me to enter a PIN to confirm the Secure Boot mode change. Since I cannot see the message, I cannot see the PIN that I am supposed to enter. Pressing Escape seems to cancel the Secure Boot mode change and boot normally into the installed OS. When I reboot and go back into the BIOS settings, Secure Boot is set to Enabled.

So, I would like to know how to fix this error. I've reset the BIOS multiple times via the methods mentioned but that didn't help, unfortunately.

Thanks,

Alistair
