HP NoteBook Energy Star

I was rebooting my computer awhile ago and I've done it a few times before and never ran into any issues, but when I did it the most recent time, it went to a black screen that says,

"Boot Device Not Found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk.

Hard Disk (3F0)

F2 System Diagnostics

For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup"

And I have tried everything suggested to me on the internet and none of it works. I use this computer for schooling and I am a broke college student who cannot afford to spend hundreds to fix this problem. I spoke to someone at Best Buy and they said I have somehow managed to uninstall my harddrive which doesn't make sense to me, but then again I know nothing about computers, but he also said it'd be 100 dollars to fix the issue and I obviously don't have that. My warranty just went with HP and I can't afford to redo that right now, either.

Please, if there is some way to fix this by just me doing it without spending a hundred dollars please let me know. Thank you.

Hi:

If your notebook came with W10, you can try reinstalling W10 for free.

To reinstall W10...Use the Media Creation Tool.  Make the 64 bit installation media.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, since your PC is not working.

W10 will work with the product key in the BIOS, install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...

  1. Select Download tool now, and select Run.
  2. If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
  3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
  4. Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.

  5. Select which media you want to use:
  6. USB flash drive.  Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.

Then you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

Hi!

First off, thank you for responding and trying to help. I downloaded W10, and followed all of the steps and it worked all the way up until it said it was finishing, the download on the computer that's not working stopped and said something was causing it to not download and to contact the provider of the computer or something along those lines.

Is there something I am not doing or am I missing a step? Or is this computer hopeless? Thank you.

You're very welcome.

Did you try making the W10 installation media on another Windows PC?

Do the option to create a bootable USB flash drive and then try the install on your PC that is not working.

If it errors out, then it is very possible the hard drive is no good.
