I have an HP 250 G7 Notebook PC running Windows 10. Recently, my laptop has been displaying the error message:

"Boot Device Not Found. Please install an operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk (3F0B)."

Additionally, I’m experiencing issues with sleep mode and shutdown:

  • The laptop does not wake up properly from sleep.
  • I have to forcefully shut it down and restart manually.

Troubleshooting Steps I've Tried:

  1. Checked BIOS (F10) – Hard drive status: [Detected/Not Detected].
  2. Ran HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2) – Hard drive test result: [Pass/Fail].
  3. Checked the hard drive connections.
  4. Tried booting from a Windows recovery USB.

Welcome to HP Support Community, @AragawTadieBD

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

This error usually indicates one of the following:

The internal hard drive is failing.

The SATA connector is loose or damaged.

BIOS is not detecting the drive consistently.

The drive is struggling to wake from sleep, which often happens before it fails completely.

Your sleep/wake problem strongly suggests the hard drive is failing.

Step 1 — Check Drive Detection in BIOS

  • Restart → press F10 → open BIOS → check Storage or Device Configuration.
  • If the drive is detected: the OS or data may be corrupted.
  • If the drive is not detected, or appears sometimes and not other times: the hard drive is failing.
  • Intermittent detection almost always indicates hardware failure.

Step 2 — Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2)

  • Run:
  • Quick Test
  • Extensive Test
  • If the test fails, the drive must be replaced.
If it passes but you still get errors, the drive is still likely failing.

Step 3 — Check Drive Visibility Using Windows Recovery USB

  • Boot from the Windows recovery USB.
  • Open Command Prompt → type:
  • diskpart
    list disk
    Results:
  • If Disk 0 is missing: the laptop cannot see the drive → physical failure.
  • If Disk 0 appears but partitions are missing: drive corruption.

Step 4 — Physically Check or Replace the Drive

  • Remove the back panel, take out the drive, clean the connectors, and reseat it.
  • If symptoms continue, replace the drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.
Upgrading to an SSD will also fix:
  • Boot device errors
  • Sleep/wake problems
  • Slow performance
  • Random shutdowns
  • The HDDs in this model commonly fail after a few years.
  • Most Likely Cause
  • Based on your symptoms:
  • Boot device not found
  • Sleep mode not waking
  • Forced shutdown
  • Sometimes detected, sometimes not
  • The hard drive is almost certainly failing.
  • Replacing it with an SSD is the permanent fix.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
