Running an HP laptop platform 17-ak0xx w/ Bios vers. F.06 ; Windows 10 Operating Sys:
Dual boot mode - UNIX on separate Disc.
UEFI Boot selection in use.
Machine comes up ->
Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
Hard Disk (3FO)
F2 Sysatem Diagnostics
<-
Ran the Diagnostic Tests - Memory, HD Checks, both short snd long, all "PASSED".
Followed instructions from HP online support, Virtual Agent - Unsuccessful
Did attempt
Performed a power reset No change
BIOS reset to default F10/F9 ,, ,,
BIOS UPDATE Unsuccessful (Win logo + B Key method - seemed to fail as it did not enter update mode)
Is there some other corrective steps that I can take?
Is there a way of re-installing the O/S without overwriting the non-system data on the disc?
Or can I save the data to a USB external disc, perhaps w/ a rescue disc made on another Win 10 machine?
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks!

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
It's a pleasure assisting you in finding answers to your technical queries.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
How are you trying to reinstall the OS?
Where did you get the recovery?
However, use this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443463 for Boot Device Not Found Error or Hard Drive Not Detected
Eager to assist you!
Cheers:)

At this stage I am not attempting to install anything as I fearful of overwriting or deleting any files. I am seeking advice and guidance on next logical steps.
I followed most of the steps outlined in the https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01443463 link w/ results as outlined in original Post above. Exception -- That displayed page on F2 prompt had header of "HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI" and showed [a] Memory Test; [b] Hard Drive Check; [c] Language [d] and [e} Exit instead of the list shown in the link notably the "Component" item.
Is the Recovery Disk' like a LiveFS (live File System) allowing a boot from that FS and allowing repair of the compromised HD in the computer?
Thanks!

It looks like you were interacting with @Raj1788, but he is out for the day. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.
If the OS is corrupted you might still be able to repair it using the Recovery Media
If the hard drive is not faulty, then you can use it on another computer and extract your data
Thank you

Thanks Krazy!
Is there a video or instruction set on how to remove the HD for the 17-ak013dx platform? I removed the four (4) screws on the back of the machine removed the optical drive but still can't get into the machine. The user manual does not provide any info either - seems different from other laptops.
Thanks.
