Hi everyone!

 

Yesterday morning once I started my laptop (I've been using for the last 3 years on a daily basis and always keep the OS and other apps up to date) after the HP Logo screen the blue screen appeared (with no error messages) and the laptop was automatically shut down. 

 

I followed the guidances of the HP virtual assistant and downloaded the latest BIOS update (F.25) to a USB from HP website.

 

I have then successfully managed to upgrade the BIOS to F.25 following the guidances (Windows + B  plus power etc.).

 

After this I have received the following message on the black screen:

 

"Boot Device Not Found

Please install an operating system on your hard disk

Hard Disk (3F0)

F2 System Diagnostics"

 

I have then hit F2 and run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI - Hard Drive Check (quick) and received "No hard drive installed. Please check that the power and data cables are connected properly."

 

How can I move from this point on, your support is greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

Hello HY06,

 

I understand that you have updated your BIOS and now you are getting a "Boot Device Not Found" error.

I recommend you to restore the BIOS default settings:

  • Turn off your device
  • Turn it back on and immediately start pressing ESC key
  • Press F10 to enter the BIOS
  • Using the right arrow key select "Exit" tab
  • Using the down arrow key select "Load Setup Defaults" and hit enter
  • Press enter again to confirm.
  • Press F10 key to save settings and exit BIOS
  • Your device should auto-reboot

Many thanks for your feedback! I've followed the steps you've suggested, I then again had the HP logo followed by blue screen (with no error messages) and few seconds later the laptop automatically shut down unfortunately 😞 

 

Appreciate if you have other suggestions - many thanks in advance!

Looks like it might be a Windows-related issue.

I need you to provide a few more information:

  • What is your device model number? (How to find it: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824)
    Do NOT post the serial number.
  • Did any hardware changes take place on the laptop recently?
  • Did any software changes or updates happen?
  • What was the last thing you did when the computer was working?

Meanwhile you could try to run Startup Repair. Sometimes it can resolve Windows booting issues.

  • Turn on the device and immediately start pressing ESC key.
  • Press F11 to enter System Recovery
  • Go to Troubleshoot >> Advanced Options >> Startup repair

Many thanks again! I've tried this as well and after pressing F11 I've received the following message in a blue box in front of the black screen:

 

Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed.

Insert recovery media and hit any key.

Then select "Boot Manager" to choose a new Boot Device or to Boot Recovery Media.

Then I selected OK as there was no other option.

Next page appeared entitled "Boot Manager" 

 

Boot Option Menu (but there is nothing to select?)

And underneath writes Press F10 to BIOS Setup Options, ESC to exit 

I've pressed F10 and received the below in black screen

"No bootable device - Please restart system" 

 

PS. the laptop model is written in my first message

Looks like there is no boot sector on the hard drive or it is corrupted.

You would need to download the Windows ISO image and create bootable USB.

 

Here is Windows 10 ISO download: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

and here is Windows 11 ISO: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

(if you want to use Windows 10 ISO, I would recommend you to find a mirror which would allow you to download the ISO without the media creation tool)

 

To create a bootable USB you need to use third-party software. I think that Rufus is the best option.

You can also find many tutorials on YouTube.

 

NOTE: Creating the bootable USB will erase all data on the USB! Remember to backup your data first.

 

Once you have created the USB:

  • Turn on the computer and immediately start pressing F9 key to access Boot Manager
  • Select your USB drive and press Enter
  • Wait for the installer to load
  • In the installer window click Next and then Repair your PC
  • Go to Troubleshoot >> Advanced Options >> Startup Repair

The Startup Repair will probably fail, however it can give us some information about the problem.
