I keep getting a Blue Screen with the "Hard Disk (3F0)" message on trying to boot up. Tried Resetting computer by reinstalling Windows but it will not allow me to reset. Sometimes it will boot up, only to lock up within 30 mins or less. Anyone have this issue or know the fix???

Hi @av8nfreak,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Hard Disk (3F0)" error on a blue screen indicates a problem with your hard drive. This could be due to hardware failure, corrupted system files, or other disk-related issues. Here’s a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
**1. Check Physical Connections
A. Power Down and Unplug:
- Turn off your computer and unplug it from the power source.
B. Check Hard Drive Connections:
- Open the computer case (if it’s a desktop) and check the cables connecting the hard drive to the motherboard and power supply. Ensure that all connections are secure.
C. Reconnect Cables:
- Disconnect and reconnect the cables to ensure a good connection.
**2. Run Hardware Diagnostics
A. Access Built-In Diagnostics:
- Many computers have built-in diagnostic tools. For HP computers, you can usually access this by pressing Esc or F2 during startup.
B. Run Hard Drive Test:
- Select the hard drive test from the diagnostics menu and run it. The test will check for any hardware issues with the hard drive.
C. Review Results:
- Note any error codes or messages provided by the diagnostic tool. These can help determine if the hard drive is failing.
**3. Attempt to Repair Hard Drive
A. Boot from Windows Installation Media:
- Create a Windows installation USB drive if you don’t have one. You can use another computer to download the Windows Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website to create the installation media.
B. Access Command Prompt:
- Boot from the installation media. When prompted, select Repair your computer and then Troubleshoot. Go to Advanced options and select Command Prompt.
C. Run Disk Check Commands:
- In the Command Prompt, run the following commands to check and repair disk errors:
- This command checks the disk for errors and attempts to repair them. Replace C: with the appropriate drive letter if your Windows installation is on a different drive.
**4. Check and Replace Hard Drive
- If you can access the drive, backup any important data as soon as possible.
- If diagnostics indicate a hard drive failure, or if you’re unable to repair it, you may need to replace the hard drive. Purchase a new hard drive or SSD and install it.
- After replacing the hard drive, you’ll need to reinstall Windows using the installation media you created.
**5. Perform a Clean Installation of Windows
- Boot from the Windows installation USB drive or DVD.
- Choose to install a new copy of Windows.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
