Boot options legacy missing

I just bought a HP laptop with Windows 11 and I can't find legacy in the boot options. Do I have to finish setting up Windows 11 so I can turn off the s mode? I need to put Linux mint on my laptop.

New notebooks with W11 no longer have a legacy boot option.

It's all UEFI now.

The only feature you can disable is Secure Boot.

 I don't know what kind of Mint you are trying to install, but apparently Mint Debian 5 can be installed in UEFI mode. See this post below and read the author's reply dated 04-08-2024 11:29 PM.

• I didn't know there were multiple Linux mints. Linux Mint with a cinnamon desktop. Linuxmint 22 the most recent edition. Linux mint.com
• I can't find UEFI as an option either. When I press f9 for the boot options, it does not show the option to start with the USB flash drive. Even though it shows in the bios.

Your system doesn't have a "UEFI option," Your notebook supports only UEFI boot mode. If you don't see the Mint installation usb drive in F9 Boot option, the reason could be either the usb drive doesn't run in UEFI mode, or the usb drive doesn't have correct boot file(s) on it.

From what you describe, maybe not all Mint variants support UEFI mode. I'm not a Linux boy and have little knowledge about it. Perhaps, you can get help from this Mint forum.

Thank you for your response! I already disabled secure boot but the option to boot off the USB is not showing on boot up. I can see it in the BIOS and that's set to go first. So I don't know if HP has done something to make it hard to install Windows or if I just don't know what I'm doing. I've been using Windows and installing them on every computer I've had which has been a lot since about 2015.
