pavilion 15t laptop
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Have checked hard ware, all pass.  Tried a restore point, non listed.  Tried to go back to previous version, can't do it.  Tried to fix start up problems but fails to be able to repair.  Tried all options short of restore to original and restore from backup.  Unplugged/removed battery, held power button down.

Anything else I can try besides restore?

Remembered we had a repair disk for the laptop, stuck it in and found a way to get it to boot from dvd through efi? settings, dvd ran a bit and it booted right up.

Seems to be running like a charm.

Thanks for your reply and thanks to hp for providing this forum.

I ran into a very similar problem a couple of weeks ago when my Win10 Upgraded HP laptop suddenly stopped doing routine things properly.  I "lost" access to my networked HP printer and several of the shortcuts would not work, anymore.

I "solved" my problem by restoring from image backups, starting with the most recent from late November, 2017.  But, I had to go back to October, 2017 to get a stable platform where everything worked, again.

You said "previous version" and if this means you Upgraded your laptop to Win10 from a prior OS, that Upgrade trashes the HP recovery information, preventing you from then rolling back to the previous OS.

System Restore will be a waste of time, as all that does is save old versions of Windows system files.

What MIGHT work, in your case, is something known as a Repair-Install.  This is the least destructive of all the Windows recovery functions and rewrites the Windows system files, including the drivers, leaving your data, settings, and applications intact.

To do this, you will need to use the link to download Win10 installation media and either burn a DVD or create a USB stick: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10

Note that when you go do download and build install media, the tool defaults to matching what is already installed on your PC (as in, Home for Home, 64-bit for 64-bit).  Make sure you select the same version as needed for your PC. If you do not, the resulting media will be different and will force you to enter a NEW product code!

Once you have that media, follow the instructions in the link:  http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html

If that does not fix the problem, and you have image backups, then a restore from one of those will be your only other option other than a complete clean-install from scratch.

I do not have a dvd drive on my laptop, how do I use an installation CD? I uninstalled mcafee and now my computer won't boot. It goes to a blue screen asking what language I want to use. Then I have all the restore options  but non of them work. When I boot the computer up startup commands to get to settings, safe mode or startup menu to not work. I was running windows 10. Any help would be so very much appreciated!!
