HP ENVY - 17t-ce100 CTO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After the automatic bios update,  my laptop does not start properly. It gives message "Your PC/Device needs to be repaired. A required device cannot be connected or cant be accessed. Error code 0xc0000225.

You will need to use recovery tools. If you don't have any installation media (like a disk or USB device), contact your PC Administrator or PC/Device manufacturer)."

I also tried the Windows+B and power on BiOS recovery path. After the recovery it comes back to this message again no matter what I try. Can someone help?

Hi @KKhan2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your HP ENVY laptop after a BIOS update. The error code 0xc0000225 typically indicates a problem with the boot configuration or the system files needed for Windows to start. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Create a Windows Installation USB:

  • If you have access to another computer, you can create a Windows installation USB using the Media Creation Tool provided by Microsoft. This tool will help you create a bootable USB drive with the Windows installation files.

Boot from the Windows Installation USB:

  • Insert the Windows Installation USB into your problematic laptop.
  • Restart the laptop and press the necessary key (usually F2, F10, F12, or ESC) to access the boot menu during startup.
  • Choose the USB drive from the list of boot options.

Access the Repair Options:

  • Once the Windows installation screen appears, select your language and other preferences, and click "Next."
  • Click on "Repair your computer" at the bottom left corner.

Use Automatic Repair:

  • In the "Choose an option" screen, select "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Startup Repair."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and allow the system to attempt automatic repairs.

Perform System Restore:

  • If the automatic repair doesn't work, go back to the "Advanced options" screen and choose "System Restore."
  • Select a restore point before the BIOS update.

Use Command Prompt:

  • If System Restore doesn't resolve the issue, you can go back to "Advanced options" and choose "Command Prompt."
  • Use commands like chkdsk and sfc /scannow to check and repair the disk and system files.

Revert BIOS to Previous Version:

  • If the issue started after a BIOS update, consider reverting to the previous BIOS version. Check HP's official website for instructions on how to perform a BIOS rollback.

Remember to back up your important data before attempting any major changes to your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
