I recently purchased the HP DVD 600s external drive to attach to the HP Spectre x360 Convertible laptop but am unable to get the laptop to boot from a CD or DVD. I've disabled secure boot in the bios and moved the CD option to the top of the list in the UEFI boot order but booting up bypasses the CD/DVD drive, goes straight to the hard drive, and starts Windows instead. The DVD disc boots fine on another computer. My laptop product number is T629UA#ABA. Please help. Thank you.

Try all the usb ports. I just had this issue myself where the laptop would only boot with a usb external DVD drive when plugged into the sole USB 2.0 port. You might also try looking in the BIOS and see if there is a setting for USB 3.0 preboot and turn off USB 3.0 before Windows loads.

Was just able to get USB CD/DVD to appear in the F9 boot menu by:
disabling secure boot mode
enabling legacy boot mode
making USB CD/DVD option first in both the UEFI and legacy sets of boot options
Not sure why it didn't show up initially- maybe the legacy mode option is what fixes it.
