I want to exploreNixOS Without installing it. I made a bootable USB Drive. I interrupt normal boot up using the escape key and then try to switch the boot device to the USB drive. I get an error message saying that the drive is not authenticated. I use the same USB drive on an old Windows machine. On that machine, I was able to boot from the USB drive. I can’t figure out how to allow it on my new HPZ book Any help would be appreciated.

From my experience, disable secure boot in BIOS and try again.
If your notebook is Bitlocker encrypted, the system may ask for BitLocker recovery key upon reboot after a required 4-digit pass code is enternd.
So, it's imperative for you to get BitLocker recovery key before doing this task. If you are not sure how to get a recovery key, sign into your Microsoft account from Windows and follow the instructions at the link below.
